Have you ever heard something that sounded so crazy that you figured it couldn't possibly be true?

The disciples on the road to Emmaus probably felt this way about Jesus' teachings surrounding his death and resurrection.

Jesus met them on the road (but they didn’t recognize him) and they were sad and discouraged.

Why? In their minds, there was no way that the Messiah should have suffered and died.

You might have experiences where events in your life didn’t turn out how you expected, and it left you sad and discouraged.

I shared some thoughts on Matthew 16:13-20 with my newsletter community today.

It’s a passage that most of us know — Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” And their answers are less than satisfactory. Then Jesus asks, “Well, who do you say that I am?” Through a revelation from God, Peter identifies Jesus as the Messiah.

Who do you say that he is?

Do you know him? Or, are you living off your parents’ faith?

Are you a Christian because Jesus has transformed your life? Or does it just seem like a trendy thing to do?

If you know him personally, may your knowledge of him impact the way you live your life. But if you don't know him, I pray that you will.

Over one million people visit Bethlehem each year. But for a long time, it was considered as small and insignificant.

Micah prophesied that the Messiah would come from Bethlehem. Most people probably thought it was strange.

God often works through small, mundane things.

Most of our lives are marked by seemingly insignificant events.

But all of our lives are meant to point to Christ.

So, like Bethlehem, the small and insignificant city, may we allow our regular days to bring glory to God and may we do all of our work, big and small, with our whole hearts believing that it matters to the kingdom of God.
